Governair Helps Hospital Reduce Energy Costs/Improve IAQ
Oklahoma City, OK (January 23, 2013)—Governair has released a new case study featuring a hospital retrofit project in Springfield, Missouri. Administrators of the CoxHealth system wanted to create a better indoor environment to serve the variety of healthcare functions in the building, a multi-function health services facility. To accomplish this, the hospital retrofitted their existing system by converting to a 100% dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS). The system selected was an 88,000 cfm Governair® Series WF air handler with three large total energy wheels and a fan array.
Retrofitting this equipment into their existing facility design allowed the hospital to increase ventilation rates and achieve better control over building humidity levels. Says Gary Whittenberg from CoxHealth, “Since this unit has been installed, we’ve not had one complaint about odor or any complaints about lack of cooling. The system recovers enough energy to supplement the existing system as well as providing 100% fresh air to the facility.”
Additionally, by converting to DOAS, the hospital will realize an energy cost savings of over $200,000 annually by preconditioning the outdoor air before it enters the existing HVAC plant. The reduced unit footprint afforded by the 18-fan FANWALL® array also made locating the Governair unit on the roof possible, in front of the hospital’s outdoor air intake.
